Photos that I took from a recent trip to Port Arthur, where we visited the remarkable cave.

A little friend we met on the way!

These last two images are photos that I also took. I’ve been experimenting with illustrations overlaying photos. I’m kinda liking the aesthetics that it produces.

Things happening.

1/. I’m still working on my exhibition pieces. I’ve learnt that I completely under estimated how long it takes to do large detailed paintings, so I’ll be working a few late nights to get them finished. But I’m really pleased with the results.

2/. I’ve been slowly chipping away at my new rebrand it’s been months in the making. Due to other commitments I’ve had to stop and start the process a few times. There’s a few surprises here! But for now I’m working on my email newsletter with Tom. So to everyone who has signed up: expect something in your inbox in the next coming months.

3/. I’m still going to Yoga in the evenings with my friend Meg Perkins. It’s brillant and is a great way to level out a day in the studio and/or in front of a computer. So hopefully, the hurties from the computer and repetitive movements will go away.

4/. Lots of great new project happening! Getting pumped to start them.

I’ve been busy working on this piece for the past month(s).
This is only a little snippet of the piece, it’s actually quite big and there’s a whole lot of white space to fill. I haven’t worked large scale since Uni days and I have to say it’s been a challenge. But once I got over the initial feeling of – hec theres a LOT to do, it became refreshing working larger .There’s a real sense of freedom and space and although the pieces take longer I love it. I’m also working with loads of colour another thing that intimidates me, but I’m feeling pretty confident and I looking forward to incorporating more colour into future works. The above work even has shiny metallic bits.

The piece is for an upcoming collab exhibition I’m having with my talented and close friend David Fooks. It will be held at Sweetswork Shop, Sydney. Opening is the 28th April.
Daves fab piece… How amazing is it so far!

Here’s a little rationale about what we’re trying to portray.

THEY ARE VISIBLE
This series focuses primarily on the gaze, whether it be through a subconscious or conscious visual connection.
Beth Emily focuses on elements relating to the natural realm. The primary focus is on the disposition between the predator and the prey and the burning gaze exchanged in these last moments of life. David Fooks translates contemporary fashion photography and popular imagery, into a purely aesthetic dialogue between the viewer and the viewed. Using the viewers gaze as a mirror to the subconscious dilution of personal aesthetics; cultural aesthetics; and notions of beauty and the ethereal.
Although the intention of both artists in depicting the gaze is quite different, the overall aim is the same: to connect and absorb the gaze of the viewer into the visible story created by the imagery.

I’ll be posting more progression pics soon.
Wishing everyone a happy weekend – I’m hoping the weathers okay to head to the botanical gardens to take some reference pics of plants for another project.

OTHER THINGS HAPPENING

1/. I’m now stocking at Spacebar Gallery in Hobart.
2/. I’m excited that JCrew are now shipping to Australia. (Simple pleasures!)
3/. The sad truth is that my sister got me addicted to my kitchen rules, but the saddest thing is I’m allergic to fructose and I suffer from IBS, so it’s actually a form of torcher watching them cook whatever they want. I don’t think they’ve cooked one thing I can eat so far. One good thing about watching the program is that they use a lot of seafood and I’ve been cooking with it recently. I’m slowly converting Tom – as he doesn’t like shellfish, it seems to be working so far. YES!
4/. Dom and Tom have been working on this project. It’s where you go to find website awesomeness!
