Bird of the Sun | 2010

I’ve managed to finish the birdy that I have been working on (amongst other things).
He’ll be available as an OPEN EDITION PRINT in my etsy shop in a weeks time.

I thought that I might try and be a little bolder and braver with my colours this time around. Next image I may even draw something different than a bird. =^_^=

*I just wanted to take the time to say a massive thank you to all the encouragement from everyone. Especially from other artists and illustrators that take the time out from their busy work to write special little messages or whom send me little gifts.

Work has been keeping me on my toes lately. However, there are many exciting things in the pipelines to share at later dates. I’m also looking forward to taking some pics of the changing seasons. Spring is my favourite time of year, blossoms, magnolias and daffs all blooming. Such a beautiful time of year.

Erin Wasson LOOKBOOK 2010

July 23rd, 2010 | 2 comments

♥♥♥ Oh… how I love these shots: Brightly coloured illustrations with monochromatic
photography and the lovely lady ‘Erin Wasson’. ♥♥♥

‘Erin Wasson
plays both designer and model for the fall lookbook of her collaborative collection with RVCA clothing. Lensed by David Mushegain, Erin poses in front of a whimsical backdrop of colorful illustrations drawn by Alia Penner. Evoking a sense of casual cool, the images reflect the laid-back spirit of the autumn range with its focus on denim, tees and accessories.’

Words from: Fashion Gone Rogue.

Here’s a little peek at an image I have been working on. I’ve been using textured paper to draw on lately and I’m really liking the surface and the texture/depth that it creates with the pencil. Can’t wait to finish it.

Down South

July 20th, 2010 | 4 comments

On the weekend we went down to Cygnet with a friend of ours. It was really nice country drive down, for those that don’t know where Cygnet it is about an hour south of Hobart. I took a couple of happy snaps while I was there. One of Lilly the pup, wattle and female wrens, which were hoping about eating worms.

Long time…

The above photos are of plants I picked while on a short walk in South Hobart. I wanted to photograph different perspectives of natural forms.

My poor neglected blog. Sorry everyone, I’ve been pretty busy which unfortunately, means limited or in this case no blogging time. Things are coming from each angle at the moment but the things that I am organising are very exciting indeed and I can’t wait to share all the news. But unfortunately, some of these exciting things have to wait.

I can let you know that I plan to be in a group exhibition in July. It’s going to be hosted in Cube, a lovely little boutique in Salamanca, Hobart. The exhibition itself is called Rainy Days, which I find very appropriate for this time of year in Hobart, brrrrr! just a tad cold. My business Partner of Floatingworld, Alecia will also be participating. Weeee… fun times ahead.

I thought I would share this as well. Ages ago I entered the Finders Keepers comp. Here is a little interview about me and my works. Enjoy. : )

Iris Strubegger & Heidi Mount by Paolo Roversi | Vogue Russia May 2010
I love love love these pictures!
The make-up, hats, accessories are wonderful.
They definitely have a vibe of cabaret and Parisian which I think is wonderful. Mainly because I love that sort of thing.

Finders Keepers t-shirt

May 18th, 2010 | 6 comments

My t-shirt arrived a couple of weeks ago from the Finders Keepers comp. I have been meaning to post it for a while now. I’m really happy with the amount of detail in the print. I always get a little nervous about my thin lines and soft colouring when it comes to printing. But, the Finders Keepers crew have done a fantastic job.

Study of Anna’s Hummingbird

April 28th, 2010 | 1 comment

This is a study of a hummingbird that I have done thus far! Not to sure about the composition, still needs work .
Anna is a type of Hummingbird it has purple/redish iridescent feathers at the front of it’s body. I thought I’d draw this particular type as it also has lovely green iridescent feathers on it’s back. Which I hope to portray in the final image, somehow! YIKES! Got lots of work ahead of me.
I think for the final piece which, I will start on later on in the week, will be one in a flying position. But we’ll see.
I hope everyone is having a great week.
Mines already better than last week. I was really sick and there was loads of things to do in the Floatingworld HQ. So what does one do when they feel like pooh… goes etsy shopping. I found some shoes, now I just have to wait for them to arrive!

AND… for all those who went into my comp I have the cards in my little hands but I’m still waiting on the envelopes to arrive. Hopefully, I’ll be able to take some pics to show you what you’ll be getting.

Please vote for our design.

YAY! Congratulations Bec and the bird that I’ll be illustrating is a Hummingbird.
Thanks to all that entered my little comp and to show my appreciation I’m going to send everyone that entered 5 x little birdy cards illustrated by me. All I need to know is where you would like them to be delivered. So if you could all send me an email with your postal address to hello[at]beth-emily.com and I’ll send them out in the next week or so.

Bec if you could contact me via hello[at]beth-emily.com that would be swell.
I’ll post the progress of the illustration on my blog so you can all see.
