Constance Jablonski by Cédric Buchet for i-D Summer 2010
Awww… Such a pretty lady.
There’s something really appealing about black and white photography. I think it’s the romantic and dreamy presence they create, especially in these images. I’m not sure what it is but these images remind me of Gustav Klimt’s paintings (one of my favourite artists). Maybe it’s the composition.

Hope everyone had a fantastic day! Mine was spent running around after my own tail. But it was a good day none the less.

New drawings

May 7th, 2010 | 0 comments

Above is my illustration of a Swallow. The scanned images doesn’t replicate the detail and tone all that well, which is unfortunate and a little dissapointing. I may have to spend sometime re-scanning or trying to get back the lost detail and tone via photoshop. I’m hoping to add some more elements which, will give the image some lovely textures and patterns. But I won’t give to much away.

Above is the little Hummingbird that I was drawing for Bec whom, won my little comp. I’m happy with the depth of tone and marks. I can’t wait to muck around with some watercolour to add colour and sparkles. I have to say I don’t particularly have a plan for this little guy but, the anticipation is half the fun. All I know is that I’d be brilliant if I could replicate the iridescent feathers that
Hummingbirds have.

Cards cards cards!!!

For all those lovelies that entered my comp last month.
I have bundled up my gifts and they’re ready to send to you.
* The pics are proof : )
You will each receive  five cards with envelopes, that I have selected from my illustrations.

I’m still working on my Hummingbird image and I’m about ready to upload another WIP. I think that he’ll be completed in the next week or so that includes time for printing.
Yay! Bec will be most pleased.

Also, I’ll be uploading the cards to my etsy shop as well in the next couple of days. There will be packets of five or individual cards for sale.

Nin went to the vet today! For a free cat which we acquired from a garage sale, you’d think she would have behavioral issues, but she’s pretty well behaved.

Bloesem Kids Competition

Finished artwork for competition

Detail of artwork

Hello, two posts in one day! Wow.
I just wanted to share the artwork that I entered in the Bloesem kids competition.
The lovely Irene from Bloesem ran a competition for her kids blog to design a head banner. You can see all the entries here. I must admit I got a bit carried away, but in a good way as this comp was a lot of fun.

As you will notice, the artwork I produced is a little different to my usual style. I kept in mind that this is for a completely different audience for whom I usually draw for. Irene sees her blogs and content that she selects to feature as ‘everything that makes me happy, smile, and enjoy life…’ so I interpreted this visually through the line work, colours, subject matter and the over all composition.

It was certainly a challenge but well worth it. I hope you like : )

New things!

February 13th, 2010 | 0 comments

The pictures above showcase some of the new accessories that I have been designing. The influence is ‘all things underwater’. Inspired by coral, fish and all things natural and organic. The materials used in the range are; freshwater pearls, silk, felt, semi precious stones, wood and sterling silver chain.

*The pearl necklace is made from alderwood, fresh water pearls that have been stitched on to a felt backing, finished with a fine sterling silver chain.
*The little fishy brooch is made from laser cut alderwood, finished with cotton stitching. (He will be in a collection of 50 pieces.) So get in quick!

Each will be available in my etsy store so stay tuned and I will let you know when I have uploaded the pics. I have a few more products to snap, I hope to have them in my store mid week. : )

Niko Niko is a Japanese toy boutique that opened it’s doors to the city of Hobart in early December. The store’s owners, Marco and Nadia, have spent many months collecting an eclectic range of original and genuine plushes, action-figures and stationary that would appease the child in all of us.

During the construction of the store, Floatingworld was approached by Australian architects Room11 to help Marco and Nadia create a brand for their new store. (For those of you that do not know I also run my own Graphic Design Studio, Floatingworld with two other lovelies, my dearest friend Alecia and my partner Tom.) As a result, we help them come up with the name “Niko Niko”  which translates as “to be happy.” We also came up with a cost effective means of producing business cards, tags and bags by making various sized stamps which they could apply to readymade bags and cards. We also helped produce the stores signage which was cut from thick plywood. The result helped to tie the front of the store to the interior designed by Room11.

See pictures above of us constructing/ designing the signage for the front of their shop. This project was so much fun and we hope we can secure more like it in the future.

These little guys are from the  Noferin website. The Pecanpals are a series of wooden creatures, that are made from sustainably harvested rubber wood. How awesome! I really wanted to buy one, but all the wooden ones are sold out.
